The hunt for Pinot …
The year was 2004, almost 20 years ago when a small budget movie, “Sideways” changed the landscape of fine wine. The main character, Miles was a Pinot Noir junkie with a mercurial obsession over the varietal and a unique disposition on life. Watchers would been drawn into his unique character. With a runtime of just over two hours, the wine consuming public had turned their attention to what was an otherwise underappreciated grape and we’re still playing catch up.
Pre-Sideways, one could easily find a trove of delicious Pinot under $15 that would satisfy both your vinous cravings and financial advisor. Nowadays, it seems impossible to secure a great bottle in a budget friendly price point. This finicky varietal has long been known for producing vibrant, focused wines with great fruit and precision acidity. Today we highlight one from a winemaker we’ve come to love – Trevor Sheehan. The man behind successful labels like Method and Clos de Napa. Trevor made his name in creating unrivaled relationships throughout California’s premium appellations. Sourcing amazing fruit from top growers, he’s able to craft some truly delicious wines at a range of prices with one consistent theme: Over-delivering.
Today we offer you Embroidery Pinot Noir – an amazing example of top quality at a price that had us looking twice. It drinks with excellent purity and depth, balancing fruit with well-timed acidity, finishing with great length. We truly could not believe we’d offer this beauty for just $14.99 on sale. Then again, it’s Trevor’s bag of tricks … and we’re glad we came across this one! |
